See how far reading has brought you? You’ve made it all the way to our new website for Reading, Literacy, Learning, Inc (RLL)…Welcome!

It’s been an amazing journey since Mr. Roosevelt Brown, RLL Founder and Director, saw a growing need for increased literacy in the San Diego community and decided to do something about it. He saw a desire in children to learn and grow intellectually but the growth they desired was not being realized in part by a mere lack of access to the vital resources they needed. Mr. Brown decided to begin hosting ‘Book Parties’ in his modest backyard with the hope that something helpful would come out of bringing these people together.

Who could have ever imagined that these small back yard gatherings with spoken word, live music/entertainment and most important—free brand new books would have turned in to such a successful project! Now, more than twenty five years later, Brown is just as committed as ever to ensuring that all San Diego children who want access to the resources they need to take control of their education and livelihood have it. The “Children’s Book Party” has developed into a major event that attracts thousands of kids. Not only is it a time to celebrate children and the incredible power of literacy but it is a time to give away FREE BOOKS! Over 1 Million books have been given away so far and the hope is to give away millions more as we continue the quest started by a quiet, humble man who simply saw a need and decided that he was just the person to fill it.
